Founded in 2005, Ringway Jacobs specialises in road network management for local government, offering engineering, innovation, and customer care for services like road maintenance, gritting, and pothole repair across the UK.
Challenges
High Accident Rates: Before implementing our partner’s cameras, Ringway Jacobs struggled with a higher accident rate and unsafe driver behaviour.
Resistance from Drivers: Initially, drivers were not receptive to the installation of the cameras, hindering the adoption of the solution.
Need for Real-Time Data: The company needed real-time, objective data to reduce accidents and improve safety by monitoring driver behaviour and providing evidence in case of incidents.
Fleet Safety Management: Ensuring that all vehicles, large and small, were covered with the right safety solutions to improve operational safety was a key concern.
The Solutions
Implemented Network-Connected Cameras: Ringway Jacobs worked with our partners to fit network-connected dashcams across their fleet, starting with 241 vehicles.
Progressive Adoption: Despite initial resistance, the value of the cameras was recognised by drivers after a few incidents where the footage helped prove drivers were not at fault.
Comprehensive Coverage: The fleet was equipped with forward- and rear-facing cameras on smaller vehicles, while larger vehicles received more comprehensive coverage, including four-way cameras and 360 safety sensors.
Increased Safety Features: Newer vehicles were fitted with 360-degree safety sensors, alerting drivers to objects or people in close proximity with visual warnings inside the cab.
Regular Safety Checks and Reports: Ringway Jacobs distributes monthly fleet dashboards to employees, highlighting road initiatives and tracking driver performance to ensure consistent safety monitoring.
The Results
54% Reduction in Accidents and Unsafe Driving: Over two years, the company saw a 54% reduction in accident rates and unsafe driving behaviours, showcasing the effectiveness of the system.
Improved Employee Morale: The implementation of the cameras and focus on safety led to increased morale among employees, as the cameras contributed to a safer working environment.
Enhanced Driver Productivity: With fewer accidents, driver productivity improved substantially, benefiting both the drivers and the company.
Increased Driver Acceptance: The cameras gained respect and approval from drivers after proving their value in accident prevention and fault evidence.
